On Monday, August 29, Joann Norman, 99, took the hand of God and left her earthly life. On September 7, she would have celebrated her 100th birthday. Joann was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great grandmother. Joann was blessed with a beautiful whistle. In her early 20s, she whistled on the radio for the USO. Her whistle was silenced in later years when she became deaf. She met her husband, Jonnie E. Monaghan, Jr. in a science lab at UT Austin. They were married in 1942. They moved to Galveston so he could finish medical school. They had three children, Gloria, Vickie (Micki) and Jerry. Johnnie preceded Joann by death in 1983. Joann met a gentleman in her church, Paul B. Norman. They married in 1986. They loved to travel. Paul passed away in 1990. Joan is preceded in death by both husbands, Johnnie and Paul, her son, Jerry W. Monaghan, her brother, Harvey Ammerman, her mother, Pearl Haynes, father Harvey H. Ammerman. Joann taught her children how to be kind, loving and independent. Joann was all of those and taught by example. Joann requested no flowers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your favorite charity or a donation to Best Friends instead of flowers. Left to remember Joann are daughters Vickie (Micki) Bezant and husband Bryce and Gloria Young. Grandchildren, Tad Timmons and wife Kami, Lonnie Goins and wife Heather, Brandi Combs and husband Greg, Preston Bezant, Dylan Monaghan and wife Christine, Lauren Fredregills and husband Robert, 13 great grandkids and 3 great great grandkids.
