Mrs. Roberta Bowman

HALTOM CITY -- Roberta Bowman, 98, went to be with our Lord Tuesday April 29, 2014 surrounded by her family. Funeral Service: Monday 1:00 p.m. at Calvario Funeral Chapel(formerly Shannon North). Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park Visitation: Sunday 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Roberta was born July 1, 1915 in Rio Vista, TX to Rufus and Lillie Hall Pipes. She graduated from Rio Vista High School with honors and studied at Brantly Draughon Business College, and attended TCU. Roberta was a renound author and poet as well as a lifetime member of the Poet Society of Texas. Roberta has received multiple awards for her literary publications of poetry and her most recent autobiographies From Flour Sacks to Satin, and Whatever Will Be. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Elton Bowman and her brother Landrum Pipes. Survivors: sons, Elton Westley, Robert David and wife Geniva, and Paul; grandchildren, John, Derek and wife Tracey, Kezia Mathis and husband Jeremy, Sabrina and Beth; brother, Jack Pipes and wife Yvette; 9 great-grandchildren.
